SEO audits in 2026 are not what they were three years ago. Core Web Vitals are a ranking factor, search results are increasingly shaped by AI answers and AI Overviews, and more and more audits end up in front of people who are not technical SEOs: executives, clients, content teams. A good audit tool today has to do both: crawl deep and explain clearly what needs to be done.
I looked at ten of the most important SEO audit tools using the same six criteria: audit types, crawl limits & scalability, usability, prioritization of findings, data quality, and price & reporting. This post is a summary. You can find the full comparison with all the details, screenshots, and prices at try.auditfyy.com/beste-seo-audit-tools.
Transparency note: Auditfyy is my own tool, developed here at KOMUNIQUE. I nevertheless made sure the comparison is fair and criteria-based. Every tool appears with its real strengths and weaknesses, including my own.
The ten tools at a glance
1. Semrush Site Audit
The audit module of one of the biggest all-in-one suites out there, with more than 140 technical and on-page checks, embedded in a huge ecosystem of keyword research, rank tracking, and competitor tools. Strong for data-driven agencies with budget, but expensive and oversized for pure audit needs. Starts at around $139.95/month.
2. Ahrefs Site Audit
The second big suite, known above all for its industry-leading backlink index, but now with a solid technical audit as well. Ideal for teams whose work relies heavily on backlink and competitor analysis. The audit is good but not the primary focus. From $29/month (limited) or $129/month; no real free trial of the full version.
3. SE Ranking
A budget-conscious all-in-one platform with native white-label reporting, good value for money for small to mid-sized agencies. White-label costs extra via the “Agency Pack”, though, and the backlink data is less fresh than at Ahrefs. Core from $103.20/month (annual billing).
4. Moz Pro
One of the oldest SEO platforms, known for the Domain Authority metric. Very beginner-friendly with clear prioritization, ideal for small teams and budget-conscious website owners. Less in-depth than Ahrefs or Semrush on large sites. From $39/month (annual billing).
5. Seobility
An audit-focused tool developed in Germany that checks every page against more than 300 SEO parameters, with one of the few genuinely useful free plans on the market and a differentiating TF*IDF content tool. EU provider. Data depth and crawl limit are smaller than with the big suites. Free Basic plan permanently free, Premium from €49.90/month.
6. Auditfyy (my tool)
An audit-focused tool that analyzes your website with real Google data instead of estimates, and packages the results into branded reports. Developed by us at KOMUNIQUE, that is, by people who deliver client audits every day themselves. Real GA4/GSC/Ads data in every audit, native white-label in your agency's design, an AI with concrete audit context, its own MCP server for Claude and Cursor, and GDPR-compliant EU hosting. As a younger tool without a huge proprietary data history, the focus is clearly on audit & reporting rather than the full all-in-one spectrum. Start for free, no credit card required.
7. Screaming Frog SEO Spider
The classic desktop crawler for technical SEOs: runs locally and digs deep into the technical structure of a website. Unbeatably cheap for the crawl depth, but without ready-made, client-friendly reports and with a steep learning curve. Free up to 500 URLs, full license around $259/year.
8. Sitebulb
Translates crawl data into visual, well-explained reports, and is the only tool with both a desktop and a cloud version. Offers the best understandable, prioritized explanations on the market, ideal for reports that non-technical clients can follow too. No permanent free tier. Desktop Lite from around $18/month.
9. Google Search Console
Google's own free tool: shows how Google actually sees, indexes, and treats your website, with real click, impression, and position data. A must for every website. It does not, however, deliver a classic audit with a prioritized list of issues; you have to do the interpretation and reporting yourself. Completely free.
10. Google Lighthouse / PageSpeed Insights
Google's free performance audit and the gold standard for Core Web Vitals checks, with concrete optimization tips per page. It only checks a single URL at a time, though, with no crawling and no structure or content audit. Completely free.
Which tool for whom?
The honest answer: there is no single best tool. The right choice depends on the use case. As a rough guide:
- Agencies with a reporting focus: Auditfyy or SE Ranking for white-label, Sitebulb for visual, explanatory reports.
- Deep technical crawling: Screaming Frog or Sitebulb.
- Complete SEO suite: Semrush or Ahrefs.
- Beginners & small budgets: Moz Pro or Seobility (with a usable free plan).
- A must in every stack: Google Search Console, free and with real Google data.
In practice, most professionals combine two or three tools: an audit and reporting tool, a deep crawler, and Google Search Console for the original data.
